Presentation: Smarter Cities — opportunities for the software developers

I'll attend Promises: 17

The IBM Smarter Cities concept considers a modern city a single system, a “system of systems” including transportation, water and energy supplies, utilities, public safety and many other complex subsystems. As cities grow and expand their services, the management and governance across the city becomes increasingly complex. Information and communications technologies help to improve the cities’ management efficiency. Many of the cities are supplied with the means of monitoring like video cameras and detectors. This data processing and analysis requires new approaches from software developers. Creation of the single information domain for the efficient and smooth management together with safety and comfort is a complex task. It requires integration of heterogeneous, independently managed systems having their own decisions making approaches. Therefore, the information needs to be processed in different scenarios, from the scheduled examination till real-time mode operations. The Smarter Cities concept has already illustrated the significant role software development plays in the modern information and communications technologies, whether it is mobile technologies, data analytics systems, portal or cloud technologies.
